Outline
Artists of every era have looked to the natural world to find subjects for thought and their art, and they have often chosen flowers as subjects to inspire their imagination in painting. The unique perspectives and methods they have brought to the painting of flowers have produced art that enchants us with the power of images to transcend everyday reality. For this exhibition we choose “Flowerscapes” as a name for the variety of pictorial spaces where flowers are taken as an important motif, and dividing this variety into nine sections we explore the wealth of expressive possibilities artists have found in flowers.

"The flowers painted by Botticelli"

The painting Primavera (Allegory of Spring) by Sandro Botticelli is widely considered one of the masterpieces of flower painting. In this exhibition are paintings that were inspired by Primavera. Mr. Kyotani will present a thorough discussion of the secrets of this captivating work by the great mater Botticelli from the perspective of art history.

Guest: Art Teller ‘Tony’
Join us in stepping out of the museum for a picnic. See an original picture story by ‘Tony’ that makes the Flowerscapes exhibition even more interesting and, if you like, join in the conversation about enjoying art. It will be nice if you bring along a picnic ground sheet and snacks. Everyone is welcome to join us on the lawn by the Henry Moore sculpture.
Tony
Tony is the only "art teller" in Japan. It is a profession that gives audiences introductions to art that wipes away the veil of complexity and exclusivity that often surrounds art, using a unique variety-type approach often involving interesting and even comical devices. Artony gives his art teller presentations at many museums, such as the Mori Art Museum. He also teaches at culture centers and is active as a writer and attendant on art tours.
